Plans are underway for the 11th biannual EISCAT (European Incoherent SCATter) 2003 International Radar Workshop. Hosted by the Center for Geospace Studies at SRI International in Menlo Park, California, the workshop will be preceded by an Incoherent Scatter Radar School for new students and visiting professors. A Second Announcement, with information regarding meeting registration, abstract submission and accommodation details will be posted on this site. To receive notification of the Second Announcement, as well as other updates regarding the workshop, please subscribe to the EISCAT2003 announcements list.

Workshop sessions will cover all types of radar studies of the ionosphere, but will generally reflect the high-latitude interests of both the EISCAT Scientific Association and the US National Science Foundation.

EISCAT (European Incoherent SCATter) Scientific Association is an international research organization operating three incoherent scatter radar systems (at 931 MHz, 224 MHz and 500 MHz) in Northern Scandinavia. It is funded and operated by the research councils of Norway, Sweden, Finland, Japan, France, the United Kingdom and Germany (collectively, the EISCAT Associates). EISCAT studies the interaction between the Sun and the Earth as revealed by disturbances in the magnetosphere and the ionized parts of the atmosphere (interactions which also give rise to the aurora borealis, or Northern Lights).

SRI International is a nonprofit research institute, committed to discovery and to the application of science and technology for knowledge, commerce, prosperity, and peace. SRI's Menlo Park campus is located in California's Silicon Valley, approximately 30 miles south of San Francisco and 20 miles north of San Jose.
