Rayleigh Lidar Observation Catalogues
The ARCLITE facility began Rayleigh lidar observations of the arctic middle atmosphere as a series of campaign efforts during the 1992-93 winter with concentrated observing periods from November 30 - December 7, 1992, February 16-22, and April 6-13, 1993. More routine observations began in the summer of 1993 and have continued up to the present. Observations are made all year round with limitations on system performance depending on the time of year due to background conditions.
The following Rayleigh lidar observation catalogues are available for viewing:

Operations
The Rayleigh lidar operates on a routine basis taking approximately 5-8 hours of continuous data per week. In addition a number of two week campaigns are organized for the winter and summer. The Rayleigh lidar is operated and maintained by the site crew throughout the year. Intensive two week campaigns are augmented with SRI, Menlo Park support. We have also benefited from a number of summer graduate students who have experienced Greenland and learned about running a sensitive instrument in a remote location.  The students travel and room and board were covered by the project.  These students are:  Andrew Gerrard (1996), Penn State University; Jobe (1998), Penn State University, Aimee Merkel, University of Colorado(2000), Keith Soldavin (2000), Penn State University.  The dates in parenthesis is the year they participated in the program.

Requests for specific periods of lidar operations should be sent to: craig.heinselman@sri.com.
