A morning meeting was held at the DMI in Copenhagen, in part, to brief
them on the idea of a Greenland sounding rocket campaign at the rocket
range near the Sondrestrom facility in late summer of 2002, and to seek
their involvement and endorsement in such a project. Torben S. Jorgensen
briefed us on past rocket campaigns in Sondrestrom
(starting in 1971) establishing a long heritage of rocket experiments performed
at the site. Jeff Thayer briefed the DMI on current status of the Sondrestrom
facility and the anticipated 5-yr renewal of the Sondrestrom cooperative
agreement with NSF. This led into discussions of the rocket mission. Those
DMI personnel attending the meeting fully endorsed the idea of pursuing
a rocket campaign at Sondrestrom and asked to be kept informed as things
progress. Their particular involvement in the rocket program will be determined
once the project is on a more solid footing (i.e., funded).
