Reconnection During May 27-28, 1997
This substorm
was embedded in the recovery of a storm caused by a magnetic cloud. The
substorm occurred after a long period of southward
IMF and magnetospheric pulsations.
The plot shows the location of the ISTP spacecraft. WIND and IMP8 were
in the solar wind, GEOTAIL was in the magnetotail, close to midnight, INTERBALL
was in the southern magnetosheath, near the bowshock.
POLAR UVI images show intense auroral activity
in a large area in the evening sector on May 27.
